Trafalgar Square

Everything that I do at my arts marketing agency revolves around getting the public to engage with arts and culture, so I was very pleased to stumble upon the start of Anthony Gormley’s creation for the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square on my way to a meeting this morning.

The ‘artwork’ will be a series of living sculptures made up of 2,399 participants who will each stand on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square for one hour each for the next 100 days. You can find out more about the project and apply to be a ‘plinthian’ here.

The project certainly seemed to catch the imagination of the press (with the help of an anti smoking protestor) appearing on the front or first inside spread of most national newspapers in the UK, and attracting the attention of news outlets from around the world.

What can museums learn from this kind audience centered project?
